BANGLADESH TEMPLES UNDER ATTACK

At least four Hindu temples were targeted on Monday and sustained minor damage, according to Kajol Debnath, the head of the Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, who spoke to news agency PTI.

Along with the temple attacks, an angry mob in Dhaka also vandalised an Indian cultural facility. The rioting caused damage to the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, which fosters cultural interchange between Bangladesh and India.

Bangabandhu Bhaban, the personal home of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father and former president of Bangladesh, who is also Sheikh Hasina's father, was set on fire by protesters in the city.

After violent skirmishes between protesters and supporters of Sheikh Hasina's Awami League party left hundreds dead, anti-government protests that started as a petition to abolish a quota system for civil service positions turned into demands for her resignation.

Sheikh Hasina secretly resigned and left the nation on Monday, citing pressure from the large-scale protests. General Waqar-Uz-Zaman, the head of Bangladesh's army, urged demonstrators to stop the violence and declared that an interim administration will be established.
